你知道吗？一位美国前总统曾在19世纪70年代进行了一次长达两年的全球访问，还曾受邀访问了当时的大清帝国？他就是美国第18任总统，也是美国内战时期的联邦军总司令——尤里西斯·S·格兰特。2022年4月27日是格兰特总统诞辰200周年纪念日，上海美国中心特别请到了亲临格兰特将军200周年诞辰纪念活动的独立学者刘显闻先生带来系列讲座，分享此次纪念活动的盛况，分享参与此次活动的所见所闻所感，为大家介绍他眼中的格兰特将军。

Did you know that a former President of the United States undertook a two-year global tour in the 1870s, and that he was invited to visit the ruling Qing Empire in China? He was the 18th president of the United States and the famous Civil War General of the victorious Union Army, Ulysses S. Grant.  April 27, 2022 was the 200^th anniversary of President Grant's birth. The Shanghai American Center has invited Mr. Liu Xianwen, an independent scholar, who attended the celebration event of General Grant’s 200^th Birthday in New York, to deliver a lecture series, share this remarkable celebration, and to introduce General Grant.

关于嘉宾 About the Speaker

刘显闻，哈佛校友，独立学者；研究领域为美国内战史，总统史，大选史，中美早期史，美国文化观察，中西文化比较等；已出版和在出版图书超过十二本；目前在哈佛大学做美国大选史研究.

Xianwen “Jefferson” Liu, Harvard alumnus, independent scholar, is a researcher in the fields of the American Civil War, U.S. presidential history, American election history, early Sino-US relations, American Culture, Comparative Studies of Chinese and U.S. Culture, etc..; he has published or is in the process of being published more than 12 books; he is currently researching American Election history at the Harvard University.

目前我们不要求参加活动的观众佩戴口罩，但如果戴口罩让您更安心，我们鼓励您这么做。参加活动请提前报名。活动会准时开始，是否有余位视现场观众到场情况而定。如果您到达时房间已满，您可能将不被允许进入，即使您已经报名。目前，我们只能保证到达的前80名观众入场。

Masks are not currently required to attend Shanghai American Center events, but audience members are encouraged to feel comfortable wearing them if they wish. Please be sure to RSVP if you intend to come.  Programs begin on time and seats are subject to space availability. If the room is full when you arrive, you might not be granted entry, even if you RSVP'd. We can only seat the first 80 guests at this time.

Doors will open and security screening will commence 15 minutes before the program starts. You must bring a valid physical photo ID in order to enter the Shanghai American Center (ShAC). Copies or pictures of IDs will not be accepted.

安检过程中，我们会对所有即将进入上海美国中心的物品进行扫描。请勿携带笔记本电脑进入上海美国中心，手机、iPad及其他平板设备、智能手表等允许携带。

All belongings carried into the ShAC will be scanned during security screening. While guests may not bring laptop computers to Shanghai American Center programs, portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted.
